While flu season has been upon us for some time, the CDC reports that seasonal influenza activity continues to increase across the United States. One key measure that can be taken to help prevent getting sick from the flu is to get vaccinated annually. This week is National Influenza Vaccination Week, and we encourage you to consider getting vaccinated in order to protect yourself and your community. The CDC recommends flu vaccines for anyone 6 months and older.

Check out the link in our bio for more information about flu vaccines and where you can get yours!

Today is World AIDS Day, a day to collectively raise awareness for the fight against HIV, support people living with HIV, and remember those who lost their lives to an HIV/AIDS-related illness. Since its recognition in 1984, more than 35 million people have died from HIV or AIDS-related illnesses and an estimated 38 million people are living with the virus today. Though great strides have been made since 1984, there is still a critical need for increased awareness about protecting oneself from HIV, fighting the stigma, and raising money to continue supporting the movement.

We are devastated by the recent shootings at Club Q, an LGBTQI+ nightclub in Colorado Springs, CO.

The LGBTQI+ community has continued to face a multitude of hate crimes. We stand by this community as we champion social justice, equity, and health for all.

Our hearts break for the victims and families of those who were killed and injured in this recent tragedy, as well as those traumatized by this event. As President Biden said, โ€œWe must address the public health epidemic of gun violence in all of its forms.โ€

We hope others join us in our commitment to do more to end these unacceptable acts of gun violence. We urge everyone to reach out to their members of Congress to pass additional legislation to prevent these violent acts and end this public health epidemic.

Ocean and Seas Health
Our ocean and coasts affect us allโ€”even those of us who don't live near the shoreline. It is a global highway for the movement of commerce and regulates global temperature. And vital source of food for many. Keeping our ocean healthy is more than just protecting human healthโ€”it's also about finding new ways to save lives. All new marine-based drugs have already been discovered that treat some types of cancer, antibiotic resistant staph infections, pain, asthma, and inflammation. A health ocean leads to a healthier nation. For more information https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/ocean-human-health.html

Today is World Polio Day! Partners around the world collaborate to work towards eradicating polio through polio immunizations. Poliomyelitis, also known as poliovirus or polio, is a disease that is spread through person-to-person contact from food and unsanitary water. Polio affects the spinal cord and can cause paralysis of the body. Before 1988, there were over 125 countries with polio cases. Currently, there are only two countries with polio cases. Since 1988, polio cases have reduced by about 99%.
